Lesson Overview

Deflections allow players to redirect the ball towards the goal and increasing the chances of scoring. It also helps to confuse and outwit the opposing team’s defence, making it an important skill for a successful attack. Students will learn to perform deflections in front of the goal to create scoring opportunities.

Lifted balls in field hockey refer to when a player intentionally raises the ball off the ground using their stick to dribble past a defender. Students will learn to defend against lifted balls and to stop attackers from dribbling into the D to create scoring chances.
