Hockey Lesson: Forehand and Backhand Hit

Lesson Overview

The forehand and backhand hit allow the ball to be passed over longer distances in order to pass the ball past the defence and create scoring opportunities. Students will learn to perform accurate passes over long distances using both the forehand and backhand hit.

Lifted balls in field hockey refer to when a player intentionally raises the ball off the ground using their stick to dribble past a defender. Students will learn to defend against lifted balls and to stop attackers from dribbling into the D to create scoring chances.
