Lesson Overview

Marking and intercepting are important skills in field hockey because they allow players to defend against the opposing team’s attacks and regain possession of the ball. Students will learn the best place to stand when marking in order to intercept the ball on the forehand and reverse.

Lifted balls in field hockey refer to when a player intentionally raises the ball off the ground using their stick to dribble past a defender. Students will learn to defend against lifted balls and to stop attackers from dribbling into the D to create scoring chances.
