The first step is to create a vision worth the effort, to give our students a story they’d like to tell, and a reason to buy in.
The second step is to build it in a way that our particular cohort of students will care about and benefit from.
The third step is to tell them a story that matches the vision they have for themselves, something that makes our group feel special and part of a unique team.
The fourth step is to spread the word, making our new way of doing things the social norm in our team.
The last step is to show up, consistently and generously, to lead your team towards their vision, building confidence with each step that you can take them there. We need to earn their permission and their trust with every lesson and every activity until they are fully invested in the journey.
As teachers, we get to consistently create positive experiences and pass on positive messages. If we do this for long enough, we can make change happen.
